Wallachian Open Air Museum
Wallachia is not just a place to see. It is a place to experience.
Timber houses, crafts, gardens and traditions that remain alive. The largest museum of its kind in the Czech Republic is just a ten-minute walk from Horal.
A morning among timber houses. An afternoon of relaxation at Horal.
The story of Wallachia told through its landscape, timber and everyday life.
The Wallachian Open Air Museum has been taking shape in Rožnov pod Radhoštěm since 1925. Historic buildings were relocated here from different parts of Wallachia to preserve the character of local towns, mountain farmsteads and technical structures.
There is no need to see everything in a single visit. Choose one area or enjoy a slower day exploring all three.
Three different sides of one region.
Each part of the museum has its own rhythm. From an intimate historic square and the landscape of a Wallachian village to buildings brought back to life by the power of water and human craftsmanship.

A town square where time moves more slowly.
The museum's oldest section was the first to open, back in 1925. Among the wooden houses and the Church of St Anne, history is not displayed behind glass – it remains part of the space you walk through.
- an intimate, easy-to-explore area in the town park
- historic wooden buildings and the Church of St Anne
- traditional programmes, fairs and seasonal events
- ideal for a shorter, relaxed visit

Homes scattered across the landscape beneath the Beskid Mountains.
The Wallachian Village feels less like an exhibition and more like a walk through the countryside. Paths climb among timber farmsteads, gardens and agricultural buildings that reveal everyday life in the mountains.
- the largest section of the museum in Rožnov
- a walk through a hillside natural setting
- farmsteads, agricultural buildings, gardens and small fields
- space for a slower visit without rushing
A museum whose atmosphere changes throughout the year.
Fairs, music, dance, crafts and festive traditions bring the historic buildings back to life. It is worth checking the current programme before your visit – every day can tell a different story.
Closer than you might expect.
You can walk from the hotel and reach the museum in just ten minutes. If you prefer to drive, the journey takes approximately two minutes. Our reception team will be happy to point you in the right direction.
A day immersed in the stories of Wallachia. An evening all to yourself.
After a journey through history, return to modern-day comfort – wellness, good food and the tranquillity of your room in the Beskid Mountains.
