Jurkovič Lookout Tower

Jurkovič Lookout Tower

Jurkovič Lookout Tower is located on the eastern edge of Rožnov pod Radhoštěm. It stands on Karlova Hill (also known as Petřek's Slope) above the Valašské Museum in Nature, at an elevation of 480 meters above sea level.

History of the Tower

Plans for the construction of the tower were drawn up by Dušan Jurkovič in 1896 for the Tourist Association in Valašské Meziříčí. It was intended to be built on Brdo Hill in the municipality of Brňov. Despite attempts to build it in the 1960s, construction began only in October 2010 and was completed in December 2011. The grand opening took place on April 28, 2012. The concrete base is faced with stone, while the wooden parts are made of beech, spruce, and fir wood. The total cost amounted to 12.2 million Czech crowns.
